What Is The Difference Between Jonathan Swift And Lliputians

Comparing and contrasting the Lilliputians and Brobdingnagians from Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels. Lilliputians and the Brobdingnagians are quite different. In Gulliver’s Travels, Lemuel Gulliver encounter the places of Lilliput and Brobdingnag. Each location has some form of satire that is targeted towards the English government. By comparison these two beings are completely different. Not only are they different by size, but they are completely different in personality and nature. Their reactions to Gulliver at each of his sizes is different as well. Lilliputians are more of a bitter people, they like to look out for themselves. Gulliver wanted to protest this at court, but he had concluded that he had too many powerful enemies to even go through with it. The Lilliputians all together portray an ugly side of humanity. â€Å"Lilliputs perfectly planned geometric city becomes the heart of state corruption and military control.† (Hart, Vaughan), Lilliput is in fact corrupt, as most of the nobles use the court for their gain. The nobles in Lilliput usually has a place in the emperor’s court. And the way in which these nobles attain their position is through ridiculous performance. â€Å"Infamous practice of acquiring great employments by dancing on the ropes . . . by leaping over sticks and creeping under them† (Swift 68), the emperor could care less of his officials being qualified for the job. He’d rather care for how entertained he is by the officials. Essentially anyone could become part of the high court, and that could provide a gateway for someone with dirty pockets. Even though Gulliver was still a different size in Brobdingnag, he was treated with much better hospitality on his discovery. â €Å"His majesty sent for three great scholars† (Swift 124), he was studied by the king’s finest scholars and not chained down like an animal. â€Å"He is examined by three Brobdingnagian scholars† (Sena, John F.), there was more focus on what his capabilities were, and how he came to be in Brobdingnag. Trinidad Carnival Carnival is a festival of colours which is transformed into costumes, calypso, steel band music, dance and different foods and Caribbean art which attracts many people from the different countries. The carnival season is usually during the two weeks before the traditional Christian fasting of Lent.
